Frank has been licensed to practice law in Alabama continually since 1989, and has represented corporations and individuals in a wide variety of matters, both litigated and non-litigated. At the beginning of his legal career, Frank primarily had a litigation practice focused on insurance matters for a number of insurance companies, among them State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company. In 1993, Frank became the first Claim Attorney for State Farm in Alabama, and he was responsible for training claim employees on a number of subjects, including existing and new laws and regulations, correct policy application and interpretation, proper investigations, and liability and damage evaluations. Frank also provided written legal advice on legal and contractual matters, assisted management and outside counsel with trial and appeal strategy, in responding and objecting to discovery requests in suits against State Farm and its insureds, and was responsible for responses to non-party subpoenas served on State Farm.
Frank Tatom
Of Counsel
When the Claim Attorney position was eliminated nationwide by State Farm in a 2012 reorganization, Frank returned to the role of outside counsel to State Farm, and in that role exclusively represented State Farm and its insureds in litigated and non-litigated matters through 2016. During that time, Frank renewed his previous proficiency in discovery and motion practice and in jury and non-jury trials, and continued to provide legal advice to State Farm.
In 2017, Frank chose to establish his own practice and cease his association with State Farm. In the ensuing five years, he has represented individuals and businesses in litigated and non-litigated matters, including business transactions, business entity formation, probate of estates, will drafting, personal injury claims, and formal legal advice and counsel. Frank’s experience in representing a large business entity as an inside counsel and an outside counsel, and in an advisory and representative role, is not common and provides him with a great insight on the challenges companies face in litigation and discovery matters, as well as having a motivated, educated, and legally compliant workforce.
Frank lives in Madison, Alabama, with his wife, Lori, and their two children, who are currently attending college.
